Tired of running out of de-icer mid-storm or making multiple trips to cover your whole property? Arctic Armor™ 2.5-Gallon is the most popular size for homeowners with a full driveway, side walkways, and a patio — covering up to 2,500 sq ft in a single application. Apply before the storm and you're protected for up to 48 hours.

Why most homeowners choose the 2.5-gallon

Most standard driveways run 400–600 sq ft. Add walkways, steps, and a patio and you're at 1,500–2,000 sq ft fast. The 1-gallon runs short. The 2.5-gallon covers everything in one pass with room to spare — making it the best value for the majority of homeowners.

Why homeowners choose liquid de-icer over rock salt

Traditional rock salt corrodes concrete over time, harms grass and plants, and can irritate pets' paws. Arctic Armor™ is 55% less corrosive than rock salt and leaves no gritty residue. It works down to –25°F and won't cause the freeze-thaw damage that granular salt accelerates in older driveways.

Key benefits at a glance

  • Full property coverage: 2,500 sq ft per jug — driveway, all walkways, steps, and patio in a single fill
  • Best value for most homeowners: 2–3 full property applications per jug depending on your coverage area
  • Pre-treatment protection: apply before the storm to prevent ice bonding — up to 48-hour coverage per application
  • Fast-acting ice melt: works on existing ice and prevents refreezing down to –25°F
  • Pet and family safe: non-toxic, won't irritate paws or skin — safe for households with dogs, cats, and children
  • Safe for concrete, asphalt, and landscaping: 55% less corrosive than rock salt, chloride-safe formula
  • No mixing required: pour directly into any standard garden sprayer and apply

How to apply Arctic Armor™ liquid de-icer

  1. Pour — fill any standard pump-style garden sprayer with Arctic Armor™. No dilution needed. One 2.5-gallon jug fills a 2-gallon sprayer once with product left over for the next application.
  2. Spray — apply a light, even coat to driveways, walkways, stairs, and patio surfaces 6–12 hours before a storm.
  3. Protect — let it dry to an invisible barrier. Reapply after 48 hours or after heavy accumulation of 2 or more inches has been removed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first application.

Yes — wet or damp pavement is actually ideal. The moisture helps the formula spread evenly and bond to the surface. Just avoid applying during active heavy rain, since it can wash the product away before it has a chance to set (about 30–60 minutes).

6–12 hours before the storm is the sweet spot. This gives Arctic Armor™ enough time to dry and form its protective barrier before snow or ice arrives. Applying the evening before an overnight storm works perfectly.

Yes. Arctic Armor™ uses a non-toxic formula with no harsh chlorides that irritate paws or get tracked into your home. It's significantly gentler than rock salt, which is a common cause of paw irritation and chemical burns in winter.

Light rain shortly after application won't significantly reduce effectiveness — the formula bonds to the surface quickly. However, heavy or prolonged rain several hours before a freeze can dilute the barrier. If significant rain occurs, we recommend reapplying once the rain stops, if time allows before the temperature drops.

Yes — when applied proactively before a freeze, Arctic Armor™ prevents black ice from forming in the first place by stopping ice from bonding to the surface. If black ice has already formed, applying Arctic Armor™ will break the bond and accelerate melting, though a light scrape may still help on thicker ice.

Liquid calcium chloride is effective in extreme cold but is highly corrosive to concrete, metal, and vegetation, and can irritate pets' paws. Arctic Armor™ is formulated to deliver similar cold-weather performance (down to -25°F) while being 55% less corrosive and safe for pets, plants, and surfaces.

2,000 sq ft — enough for a standard two-car driveway, all connecting walkways, steps, and a patio in one application.

At 1,000 sq ft per gallon, a 2.5-gallon jug gives you 2–3 full property applications depending on your coverage area.
