Everything you need to know about Arctic Armor — from application to storage to what makes it better than rock salt.
6 to 12 hours before the storm is the sweet spot. This gives the formula time to dry and form its molecular barrier before snow or ice arrives. Applying the evening before an overnight storm works perfectly. Do not apply during active heavy rain.
Yes — wet or damp pavement is actually ideal. The moisture helps the formula spread evenly and bond to the surface. Just avoid applying during active heavy rain, which can wash the product away before it sets (about 30 to 60 minutes).
One gallon covers approximately 1,000 sq ft — enough for a standard two-car driveway plus connecting walkways and steps in a single pass.
Any standard pump-style garden sprayer works. For best results use a sprayer with an adjustable wide-fan nozzle. The ICE Solutions 2-gallon pump sprayer is purpose-built for this application and holds two full driveway applications per fill.
Store in a cool dry location out of direct sunlight. No refrigeration needed. Keep above freezing if possible. If the product freezes, allow it to thaw completely and shake before use. Shelf life is two years from the date of manufacture.
Yes. Arctic Armor uses a non-toxic formula with no harsh chlorides that irritate paws or get tracked into your home. It is significantly gentler than rock salt, which is a leading cause of paw irritation and chemical burns during winter months.
No. Arctic Armor is 55% less corrosive than standard sodium chloride rock salt and will not accelerate the freeze-thaw cracking that granular salts cause over time. It is safe for concrete, asphalt, pavers, and stamped concrete.
Yes. The formula is chloride-safe and will not harm the grass, plants, or landscaping adjacent to your driveway and walkways — a significant advantage over standard rock salt, which can kill lawn edges and plant roots with runoff.
Arctic Armor remains effective down to -25 degrees Fahrenheit. Rock salt stops working around 15 degrees. Calcium chloride stops around -20 degrees. Arctic Armor outperforms all common de-icing products in extreme cold.
Light rain shortly after application will not significantly reduce effectiveness — the formula bonds quickly. Heavy or prolonged rain several hours before a freeze can dilute the barrier. If that happens, reapply once the rain stops and the temperature begins to drop.
Yes — when applied proactively before a freeze, Arctic Armor prevents black ice from forming in the first place. If black ice has already formed, applying Arctic Armor will break the bond and accelerate melting, though a light scrape may still help on thicker buildups.
One application remains active for up to 48 hours, protecting against ice and snow down to -25 degrees Fahrenheit. Reapply if more than 2 inches of snow has accumulated and been removed, or before the next storm event.
Liquid calcium chloride is effective in extreme cold but is highly corrosive to concrete, metal, and vegetation, and can irritate pets' paws. Arctic Armor delivers similar cold-weather performance down to -25F while being 55% less corrosive and safe for pets, plants, and surfaces.
The 1-gallon covers up to 1,000 sq ft — ideal for a single driveway and walkways. The 2.5-gallon covers up to 2,500 sq ft — best value for most homeowners. The 5-gallon covers up to 5,000 sq ft — recommended for large properties, HOAs, and commercial use.
